Tragedy struck in Amavo Ukwu community of Osisioma Local Government Area, Abia State as six men allegedly killed a 30-year-old woman, Akwudo Onyendiby after a misunderstanding with her husband.
The 30-year-old was alleged to have been attacked by the six men at Owerrinta in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, while carrying out her business activities.
The suspects were said to have attacked the deceased with a machete and a plank while forcing her to drink an unknown substance. However one of them have been arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Abia State Police Command.
The deceased had earlier reported the matter at the Owerrinta Police Division where she was referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia for treatment.
It was learnt that prior to Akwudo’s death, she also reported the attack to her lawyer, A. C. B. Agbazuere.
Agbazuere, who is a human rights lawyer, was said to have written a letter to the Abia State Police Commissioner, asking that the case file be transferred to the State CID from Owerrinta Police Division.
He claimed that the men who allegedly murdered Onyendi carried out an unjust and unlawful act.
“It is our instructions that these people first tried our client at the house of the said suspect on a different day, which continued on July 29, when she was attacked at her residence and also taken to the hall where the attack continued.
“It is equally our instructions that our client, Akwudo Onyendi, sustained injuries on the back, right thigh, her legs and had pains all over her body as a result of the attack and that she was forced to drink an unknown substance,
