The speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara has challenged the international community to help rebuild the insurgency-ravaged North East of Nigeria.
Dogara said Nigeria deserved greater help specifically from the West in the fight against Boko Haram having sacrificed and contributed greatly in peace keeping across the world.
The speaker made the call when he received in audience the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Michael Zenner in his office at the National Assembly, yesterday.
“Nigeria’s role in peace keeping in Africa has been unprecedented, hence she has earned the right to be supported in her time of need. Anything short is a scar on the conscience of any fair thinking ally,” the speaker said.
Dogara however lamented the lopsided trade relations between Nigeria and Germany.
The speaker encouraged German businessmen to establish manufacturing plants in Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, the German Ambassador stressed the importance of the bilateral relations between Nigeria and Germany.
This month, the world moved a step closer to the defeat of Boko Haram, the jihadist group that has terrorized hundreds of thousands in the northern states of Nigeria.
