Imo govt orders arrest of Collapse building owner, others in Nekede

Imo State Government has ordered the arrest of the owner of a collapsed two-storey building under construction at Umuoma, Nekede Owerri West Local Government area of the state as well as immediate sealing off of the premises.
The state Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere gave the order recently when he led a team of government officials to the collapsed building, to ascertain the extent of damage.
While setting up a committee to ascertain the remote cause of the incident, the Deputy Governor regretted the death of one of the workers when the incident occurred.
Madumere maintained that henceforth, council officials should ensure that any building constructed in a community should follow the approved and certified engineering plan from the professionals.
The Deputy Governor warned that the government would no longer tolerate the construction of buildings in the state with substandard materials as well as quacks contractors.
Reacting to the incident, the traditional prime minister of Umuoma Nekede, Nze Obinna Aharanwa expressed gratitude to the state government for its quick response, promising to monitor buildings under construction in the area.

Imo State government recently sought for a closer relationship with COREN and other related agencies of the government to ensure that competent hands are involved in efforts to maintain the highest level of standard in the practice of engineering.
