The city administration and corporate groups have come together to observe ‘car-free day’ on every Tuesday.
The move is expected to reduce the long traffic jams in the city and curtail the pollution level as well.
The administration will encourage people to use public transport -- metro, autos, shared cabs, cycle rickshaws and car pools -- on every Tuesday.
Also, there will be no public parking space be made available in the city on every Tuesday.
“Shuttle, an app-based service, will be available from Leisure Valley ground to all four stretches on Tuesdays. Anybody wrongly parking cars on roads will be challaned and their cars will be towed away. People should also be prepared for a surprise zero-tolerance day by the traffic police this week,” said Bharti Arora, joint commissioner of police (traffic), Gurgaon.
Though one can park cars at the Leisure Valley ground and take benefit of the shuttle services to different routes, wrongly parked cars lifted by police from across the city too can also be collected from here.
Five cranes each, a total of 20 cranes, will be placed at the four roads to pull away the wrongly parked cars.
Moreover, shuttle buses will only ply between some major metro stations such as Huda City Centre, Sikanderpur, Indusind Bank Cyber City, Kapashera border.
Though the event is for the entire city but it will mainly focus — DLF Cyber City, Golf Course Road, Unitech Cyber Park area, (Netaji Subhash Road) and Electronic City (Udyog Vihar).
Corporate firms will provide alternative transport options to their employees.
To give maximum facility DLF limited and other companies on Golf Course Road will provide guards in their respective areas.
For this initiative, the administration has increased the number of buses to provide last-mile connectivity to Metro commuters.
