The 45-year-old rapper, whose real name is Sean Combs but who has now changed to Puff Daddy, had been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and making terrorist threats.
He was visiting University of California Los Angeles Campus, where his son Justin plays football, when the incident took place on 20th June.
Although the Los Angeles county district attorney's office has declined to file Felony charges, the possibility of a lesser midemeanour charge remains at the time a spokeswoman for Combs Enterprises said the hip-hop mogul was defending himself and his son.
Nobody was seriously injured. " We are confident that once the true facts are unveiled, the case will be dismissed," she said.
Jim Mora, UCLA head coach, called the encounter "unfortunate incident for all parties."
Combs made an estimated $60million (£38m)last year. On Tuesday, his first award appearance since the arrest became memorable for all the wrong reasons, after he fell over ehile performing.
