Ambode stops convoy, rescues accident victim

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday surprised his security men and protocol officials when he suddenly ordered his vehicle to stop on Osborne Road, Ikoyi, while on his way to the office.
It was gathered that the governor had just witnessed an accident on the road and stopped his vehicle in order to assist in the rescue of the victim.
Our correspondent learnt that the victim, Miss Angela Anukam, who was driving alone in a wine-coloured Toyota Corolla with registration number, EKY 415 CG, at about 8.15am, lost control and rammed into the median of the road before the vehicle somersaulted.
An aide of the governor said Ambode was worried about what could happen to the victim, which was why he stopped his vehicle.

He said, “Worried by what could befall the occupant of the car, Governor Ambode, who was heading to the office through the direction, ordered his convoy to stop at the scene to enable him assess the situation, as well as help rescue the passenger.
“The governor immediately instructed the ambulance attached to his convoy to take Angela, who was in a state of shock, and could barely move or talk to the Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment.”
It was gathered that Angela’s sister, Amaka, was contacted shortly after the incident by some aides of the governor.
In the end, she reportedly sent a feedback indicating that Angela was treated for minor injuries and discharged free of charge on the order of the governor.
One of the aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “She said the ambulance also conveyed her sister back to her residence on Efosa Ehiedu Close, off Modupe Thomas Estate, Ajah, while officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority assisted in towing the vehicle away from the road to prevent gridlock.”
